In vitro method to differentiate chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in a human subject, comprising: a) determining the APEX1 protein concentration in a serum, plasma or whole blood sample, and b) comparing the determined APEX1 protein concentration in step (a) with a reference concentration of APEX1 protein, in which an APEX1 protein concentration greater than a reference concentration is indicative of COPD. |
