abstract | A luer adapter (100; 200) comprising a body (110; 210) that includes an inner surface (120; 220) defining a lumen (122; 222), an outer surface (240), and first ends (112 ; 212) and second (114; 214), each end being adapted to connect to a medical device; at least one antimicrobial element (130; 230) positioned on at least one of the inner surface (120; 220) and the outer surface (240); and characterized in that the luer adapter further comprises: a barrier positioned adjacent to the antimicrobial element, wherein the antimicrobial element is able to pass through the barrier after exposure of the barrier to moisture, the barrier includes a hydrophilic material (140; 250), the body (110; 210) defines at least one annular recess to receive the antimicrobial element (216), and the hydrophilic material (140; 250) covers the at least one annular recess to enclose the antimicrobial element (216). |
