titleOfInvention | Method and apparatus for detecting the appearance of stress and recovery of stress in chlorophyll containing matter |
abstract | A method for detecting the occurrence of stress in chlorophyll-containing matter caused by exposure of said chlorophyll-containing matter to a stress-inducing environmental condition, the method comprising: (a) exposing matter to light to cause chlorophyll of the matter generates fluorescence and emits a fluorescence signal, in which the exposure of the matter to light comprises the exposure of the matter successively to at least three different levels of photon flux, each different level being below that necessary to stimulate a maximum fluorescence signal, (b) detection of the emitted fluorescence signal, (c) determination of the value of a parameter based on the detected fluorescence signal, wherein determining the value of said parameter comprises determining the intensity of the fluorescence signal at each of at least three different levels of photon flux to which said matter containing c is exposed lorophyll, each different level of photonic flux being below that necessary to stimulate a maximum fluorescence signal in said matter containing chlorophyll, and in which the value of said parameter comes from the relationship between the level of photonic flux to which it exposes said chlorophyll-containing matter and said at least three determined fluorescence intensities, each determined at a different level of photon flux below that necessary to stimulate a maximum fluorescence signal in said chlorophyll-containing matter, (d) verification of the value of said parameter by means of the periodic determination of the value of said parameter for the same matter that contains chlorophyll, in which, during said verification, said matter that contains chlorophyll, is exposed to said stress-inducing environmental condition, (e) detection of changes in the verified value of said parameter, (f) comparison of changes in the verified value of said parameter with a predetermined level of change in the value of said parameter, and (g) interpretation of a change above said predetermined level of change in the verified value of said parameter as an onset of stress in the chlorophyll-containing matter caused by said condition stress inducing environment. |
