abstract |
A process for the preparation of cyclic ethers comprising the reaction under substantially anhydrous conditions of at least one organic compound having at least one pair of hydroxyl groups separated by 4 or 5 carbon atoms with an organic carbonate in the presence of a strong base for a period of time sufficient to carry out the reaction of said compound to form a cyclic ether, in which at least one of the hydroxyl groups of said at least one pair of hydroxyl groups is not a group tertiary hydroxyl and said at least one pair of hydroxyl groups is capable of being converted to an ether bond under the reaction conditions. |
