Use of a quantity of a source of hops acid with a pleasant taste selected from the group consisting of hops and lupulin cones for the preparation of an animal feed to alter the microbial population of the gastrointestinal tract of an animal, in which the cones of hops are included in animal feed in an amount between 0.4 g and 2.5 g per 45.4 kg (100 pounds) of animal feed, or in which lupulin is included in animal feed in an amount that varies between 0.08 g and 0.5 g per 45.4 kg (100 pounds) of animal feed. |
