abstract An online chemical analysis instrument, comprising: a chemical analyzer, in which a single mechanism introduces a sample (12), adds reagent (15) and cleans and washes a measuring cell (1), incorporating the analyzer: a longitudinal chamber (18) comprising the measuring cell (1) incorporating a first inlet port to introduce sample fluid (12), a second inlet port to allow injection of fluid reagent (15) and an outlet port to allow expulsion of sample / reagent mixtures; a detector (2) located in or next to said chamber (18) between the inlets and said outlet, and a movable piston (19) in said chamber (18) carrying a series of joints (20, 21, 22), of so that the movement of the piston (19) sequentially introduces sample fluid (12), injects fluid reagent (15) and expels sample / reagent mixtures; and means for the supply of reagent for supplying a volume of reagent (15) to the measuring cell (1), characterized in that the reagent supply means includes: a compressible reagent reservoir (14) that is located inside a rigid container (16) and is surrounded by a fluid (13) that substantially fills the space between said reservoir (14) and the inner wall of said container (16); wherein the piston is arranged so that the movement of the piston (19) in conjunction with the seals (20, 21, 22) generates a pressure differential between said surrounding fluid (13) and said reservoir (14) to effect a collapse partial of said reservoir (14) in order to inject reagent (15) into said measuring cell (1).
