abstract A method of diagnosing in a mammal an autoimmune neurological disorder selected from the group comprising limbic encephalitis, Morvan syndrome, and neuromiotonia comprising detecting, in a sample of mammalian body fluid, autoantibodies to an epitope of at least one protein of the Kv1 complex , wherein the Kv1 complex protein comprises at least one of CASPR2 (contactin-associated protein 2), Lgi1 (inactivated leucine-rich glioma 1 gene) and TAG1 (transient axonal glycoprotein 1); wherein the method comprises the steps of a) contacting the body fluid with the at least one protein of the Kv1 complex; and b) detect any autoantibody-antigen complex formed between the at least one protein of the Kv1 complex and autoantibodies present in the body fluid, where the presence of said complex is indicative of an autoimmune neurological disorder selected from the group comprising limbic encephalitis, syndrome of Morvan and neuromiotonia.
