titleOfInvention | Biosensor that uses whispering gallery modes in microspheres |
abstract | A method for the detection of an analyte, said method comprising contacting a set of microspheroidal particles with a sample that supposedly comprises said analyte, in which each particle of said set of microspheroidal particles comprises an immobilized binding partner of said analyte, and wherein the set of particles has a defined whispering gallery (WGM) mode profile, in which the binding of said analyte to said immobilized binding partner results in a change in said WGM profile indicated by a spectral shift at one or more peaks of the WGM profile of said set of microspheroidal particles, which is indicative of the presence of said analyte, and the detection of the binding between said analyte and the binding partner by detecting said spectral shift in one or more peaks of said WGM profile, characterized in that each particle of said particle set s microspheroid includes a quantum point as an optically detectable marker, and the emission from said optically detectable marker establishes said WGM profile. |
