Method for manufacturing a barrier film (1c) for food or beverage packaging comprising a base film (12) of a polymer and, applied on the base film, a barrier layer (11) comprising a deposited inorganic oxide by a vapor deposition method, wherein the deposited barrier layer is further coated with a cure layer (13) consisting of a cross-linked organopolysiloxane, which is covalently bonded to the inorganic barrier layer (11), which comprises the steps: - providing a base film (12) of a polymer - applying a barrier layer (11) comprising an inorganic oxide on the base film by means of a vapor deposition method - additionally coating said vapor deposited inorganic layer , characterized in that the additional coating step comprises the steps of - providing a composition consisting essentially of a reac unsaturated silane compound Tivo having three silanol-forming groups dissolved in a solvent - coating (1b) the composition on the layer (11) deposited by inorganic vapor - subjecting the coated composition to a hydrolysis and condensation reaction to provide an ethylenically unsaturated organosiloxane oligomer, which is covalently bonded to the inorganic layer - curing the coated organosiloxane oligomer to provide the crosslinked organopolysiloxane layer (13). |
