A homogenous population of cells derived from umbilical cord tissue, for use in the treatment of a neurodegenerative condition, where said population can be obtained by enzymatic digestion of blood-free umbilical cord tissue through the use of enzymatic activities of metalloprotease, protease neural and mucolytic enzyme, and where this cell population is capable of self-renewing and expanding in culture, it has the potential to differentiate into cells of a neutral phenotype, and when the cell population: (a) produces each CD10, CD13, CD44 , CD73, HLA-A, B, C, CD90 and PDGFr-alpha, detected by flow cytometry; and (b) produce no CD31, CD34, CD45, CD117, CD141 and HLA-DR, DP, DQ, detected by flow cytometry. |
