abstract Use of oligosaccharides as fertilizer for plants and procedure for obtaining fertilizer. Use of oligosaccharides composed of N-acetylglucosamine and glucosamine as a plant fertilizer, where the percentage of N-acetylglucosamine in said oligosaccharides is between 60 and 100% and where the length of said oligosaccharides is between 1 and 6 monosaccharides. Process for obtaining said oligosaccharides comprising: (a) resuspending chitin with a percentage of N-acetylglucosamine between 85% and 100% in water, (b) heating the resulting composition at a temperature between 120 and 180 ° C during a time between 20 and 40 minutes and allow to cool to room temperature and (c) sonicate the resulting composition at a power between 50 and 60 Hz for a time between 5 and 120 minutes at a temperature between 20 and 25 ° C.
