abstract | A method of sterilizing water to be treated, including the method: sterilizing water by applying a high voltage pulse to a pair of discharge electrodes (6), including a high voltage electrode (2) whose side surface is covered with an insulator (4) and whose exposed tip (2a) is flat and is a) in the same plane as a tip part (4a) of the insulator (4), b) is recessed with respect to the tip part of the insulator (4a) , or c) where the distance between electrodes is 1 to 20 mm, and where a ratio range of a tip part (2a) of the high voltage electrode protruding from a tip part (4a) of the insulator covering the electrode of high voltage with respect to the distance between electrodes is within 0 to 0.1, and a ground electrode (3) in front of the high voltage electrode (2) with a distance between electrodes (D), in the water so that dielectric breakdown takes place and bubbles (10) are generated in the water producing a jet (11) that will be directed ge in a vertical downward direction of the high voltage electrode to the ground electrode (3), characterized in that it also provides a dielectric cylinder (13) between the insulator covering the high voltage electrode and the ground electrode to guide a flow of the jet. |
