abstract | Pharmaceutical composition comprising one or more glucocorticoids for use in the treatment of a disorder requiring short-term glucocorticoid therapy, wherein the disorder requiring short-term glucocorticoid therapy is an inflammatory disorder, an autoimmune disorder, adrenal crisis acute, where acute adrenal crisis refers to primary, secondary, or tertiary adrenal insufficiency, anaphylactic reaction, Addison's crisis, status asthmaticus, blood transfusion reaction, cerebral edema, severe allergic reaction, asthma acute, acute anaphylaxis, septic shock, acute bacterial meningitis, acute RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) infection with bronchiolitis in children, children with acute diphtheria, mononucleosis with complications (airway obstruction, thrombocytopenia, and hemolytic anemia), or tonsillitis/ peritonsillitis; characterized in that the composition is administered to the oral mucosa; and the one or more glucocorticoids are absorbed into the systemic circulation; and a rapid increase in the serum level of glucocorticoid to at least 20% of Cmax is obtained within 20 min after administration; and in that the composition is in the form of a gingival film, patch, wafer, gel, sachet or patch; said film, patch, wafer, gel, sachet or gingival patch comprising hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, hydroxyethylcellulose, hydroxypropylcellulose, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, methylcellulose, ethylhydroxyethylcellulose, carboxymethylcellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, modified cellulose gum, croscarmellose, modified starch, polyethylene oxide, chitosan , gelatin, sodium alginate, pectin, scleroglucan, xanthan gum, guar gum, or poly-co-(methyl vinyl ether-maleic anhydride), alone or in combinations thereof. |
