abstract An artificial intervertebral disc (800) for implantation in a spine between a first vertebral body and a second vertebral body, where the first vertebral body has a first end plate of the vertebral body, the second vertebral body has a second end plate of the body vertebral and the first end plate of the vertebral body and the second end plate of the vertebral body are opposite each other, and comprises: a column (806) containing a polyester; a column filler (804) containing an elastomer; a first set of crimped rings (808) comprising a first inner ring (808A) and a first outer ring (808B); where the first set of crimped rings (808) is disposed adjacent to a first end of the column (806) and where at least a portion of the column (806) is held between the first inner ring (808A) and the first outer ring (808B); a second set of crimped rings (810) comprising a second inner ring (810A) and a second outer ring (810B); where the second set of crimped rings (810) is disposed adjacent to a second end of the column (806) and where at least a portion of the column (806) is held between the second inner ring (810A) and the second outer ring (810B); a first anchor member (802A) configured for placement against the first end plate of the vertebral body; and a second anchor member (802B) configured for placement against the second end plate of the vertebral body; where at least one of the first inner ring (808A) and first outer ring (808B) elements of the first set of crimped rings (808) provides a mechanism for securing the column (806) to the first anchoring member (802A); and where at least the second inner ring (810A) and second outer ring (810B) elements of the second set of crimped rings (810) provide a mechanism for securing the column (806) to the second anchoring member (802A).
