abstract | A compound of the general formula (I): ** Formula ** where the configuration of the pyranose ring is D-galact; X is selected from the group consisting of O and S; Y is selected from the group consisting of CH2, CO, SO2 and phenyl, or is a bond; R1 is selected from the group consisting of: a) glucose, mannose, galactose, N-acetylglucosamine, N-acetylgalactosamine, fucose, fructose, xylose, sialic acid, glucuronic acid, iduronic acid and galacturonic acid; b) C3- [1,2,3] triazol-1-yl substituted D-galactose; and c) hydrogen, an alkyl group and an alkenyl group; and R2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, an optionally substituted amino group, an optionally substituted alkyl group, an optionally substituted alkenyl group, an optionally substituted alkynyl group, an optionally substituted alkoxy group, an optionally substituted alkylamino group, an arylamino group optionally substituted, an optionally substituted aryloxy group, an optionally substituted aryl group and a heteroaryl group, wherein said optional substituents are halogen, alkyl, which in turn can be optionally substituted, alkoxy, nitro, sulfo, amino, hydroxy or carbonyl, wherein: the alkyl group is a straight or branched chain group comprising 1 to 12 carbon atoms, or a ring comprising 3 to 12 carbon atoms; the alkenyl group is a group comprising from 2 to 12 carbon atoms and at least one double bond; the aryl group is a group comprising from 4 to 18 carbon atoms, such as a phenyl group or a naphthyl group; the alkoxy group is a group comprising from 1 to 12 carbon atoms; such as a methoxy group or an ethoxy group; the alkylamino group is a group comprising from 1 to 12 carbon atoms; the arylamino group is a group comprising 4 to 12 carbon atoms, such as aniline, carboxylated aniline, or halogenated aniline; the aryloxy group is a group comprising from 4 to 12 carbon atoms, such as phenol, carboxylated phenol or halogenated phenol; and the heteroaryl group is a group comprising from 4 to 18 carbon atoms, wherein at least one ring atom is a hetero atom. |
