abstract Artificial retina device (10) for electrically stimulating a neuroretin of an eye in order to produce artificial vision, the artificial retina device (10) comprising: at least one stimulation electrode (23b, 27) connected to an electrical source , wherein the at least one stimulation electrode (23b, 27) is configured to be arranged or implanted for electrical contact with at least one individual cell, groups of cells, parts of cells, and nerve fibers of the neuroretin; and at least one earth return electrode (14, 14a) connected to the electrical source, characterized in that the at least one earth return electrode (14, 14a) is configured to be arranged or implanted in an extended or remote spatial location of the stimulation electrode (23b, 27) for transretinal stimulation of the neuroretin, the at least one stimulation electrode and the at least one ground return electrode being arranged on opposite sides of the neuroretin.
