abstract | Process for dimerization of 5-acetamido-N, N'-bis (2,3-dihydroxypropyl) -2,4,6-triiodo-isophthalamide (Compound A) where the temperature during dimerization is in the range of 10 to 20 ° C, which uses a solvent mixture comprising 70 to 90% by volume of 1-methoxy-2-propanol and 10 to 30% by volume of water or methanol in a concentration of 0.8 to 2.0 ml of solvent per gram of Compound A in the presence of 0.30 to 0.40 mole equivalents of epichlorohydrin with respect to Compound A, wherein the reaction solution has a pH of 11.0 to 12.5 and where the pH is varied to throughout the entire dimerization having a higher value at the beginning of the dimerization than at the end thereof. |
