Water-insoluble polymer matrix for drug delivery |
abstract |
Pharmaceutical composition comprising: (a) a bioerodible water insoluble polymer matrix comprising a polyester polymer, wherein the polymer matrix has a melting point below 60 ° C and a viscosity of 0.1 to 2 Pa.s (100 to 2,000 cps) at 55 ° C; and in which the polyester polymer has an average molecular weight of 400 to 4,000 and in which the polyester polymer is at least 80% by weight of the composition; and wherein the polymer matrix comprises a polymer selected from the group consisting of: poly (ethylene glycol adipate); poly (propylene glycol adipate); poly (butylene glycol adipate); and their mixtures and copolymers; (b) an active agent dispersed within the polymer matrix by mixing the active agent with the polymer matrix at room temperature and without the use of solvents to form an injectable semi-solid paste composition, in which the composition is formulated to Controllable release of the active agent for a predetermined period of time to a target site. |
