An in vitro procedure without cells forming a covalent conjugate between a glycosylated or non-glycosylated fibroblast growth factor (FGF) peptide and a polymer, in which the polymer is conjugated to the peptide by an intact glycosyl linking group interposed between and covalently linked to both the peptide and the polymer, which comprises contacting the peptide with a mixture comprising a nucleotide sugar covalently linked with a mixture comprising a nucleotide sugar covalently linked to the polymer and a glycosyltransferase for which nucleotide sugar is a substrate under sufficient effective conditions to form the conjugate; in which the polymer is not a sugar that is present in nature |
