abstract |
A process for producing a solid material derived from glycerol, including the process of combining wet glycerol produced as a byproduct of the production of bio-diesel or wet glycerol with a metal oxide, the metal oxide optionally containing a hydroxide of metal, the glycerol having a water content between 5 and 50%, and the number of moles of water per mole of metal oxide being between 0.1 and 10 so that an exothermic reaction occurs in which at least part of the Water present in the glycerol reacts with the metal oxide in the exothermic reaction and at least part is expelled by the heat produced in the exothermic reaction to produce the solid material derived from glycerol. |
