abstract A method of increasing the sensitivity of a diagnostic assay for diagnosing Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection in a human, wherein said diagnostic assay comprises contacting T cells from said human with a Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigen other than Rv3879c and determining whether any of said T cells recognize said antigen; said method further comprising (i) contacting T cells from said human with one or more of (a) a peptide having the sequence shown in SEQ ID NO: 1 or at least 80% homology to SEQ ID NO: 1 ; (b) a combination of peptides each having or comprising the sequence of at least 8 consecutive amino acids from the sequence shown in SEQ ID NO: 1; or (c) a combination of peptides each having at least 80% homology to a sequence of at least 8 consecutive amino acids of SEQ ID NO: 1; and (ii) determining whether any of said T cells recognize said peptide, where the method is performed in vitro, and where an antigen presenting cell (APC) is present.
