titleOfInvention Process for the preparation of phenol from cumene
abstract Process for the continuous or semi-continuous production of phenol from cumene, by means of cumene hydroperoxide (CHP), which comprises: a. Producing CHP by oxidizing cumene with an oxygen-containing gas in an airlift type reactor comprising: a1. a cylindrical structure equipped with upper and lower closure elements, said elements being respectively provided with means for feeding the reagents and means for discharging the reaction products (substantially CHP), vapors and gases that have not reacted; a2. a second substantially cylindrical structure (downpipe), open at the ends (bases), internal and coaxial with respect to the first structure; and a3. a toroidal gas distributor located at the base of the reactor around the second substantially cylindrical structures; CHP production being characterized in that the downspout is provided with an upper and / or lower flare so that the ratio A1 / A2, between the major cross section A1 and the minor cross section A2 of said flare, ranges from 1.1 to 2; b. concentrate the solution containing CHP, discharged from the air-lift reactor, to at least 70% weight; c. produce phenol by CHP acid cleavage reaction, in the presence of acetone, in a debucle reactor where the heat of reaction is recovered in two heat exchangers arranged in series in the cycle; the production of phenol being characterized because the CHP and acetone feeds are produced by couples and each of the couples is positioned upstream with respect to each exchanger.
