titleOfInvention Hyperbranched polyol macromolecule, method for its production and coating composition that includes it
abstract Hyperbranched polyol macromolecule, which is obtained a) by reacting an initial polyol with a first chain extender containing multiple hydroxyl groups and also containing a carboxyl group, to form a first generation branched core; b) optionally, further reacting the first generation branched core with a first chain extender to form a later generation branched core; c) subjecting the branched core of first generation or subsequent degeneration to reaction with a controlled amount of an intermediate reagent selected from the group consisting of polyfunctional carboxylic acids or anhydrides thereof to form an ester bridge with them, thus obtaining an intermediate polyester macromolecule, the controlled amount being chosen such that the intermediate reagent reacts with selected hydroxyl groups of the branched core and leaves other hydroxyl groups of the unreacted core; and d) reacting the intermediate polyester macromolecule with a second chain extender formed from a compound selected from the group consisting of glycidyl esters, glycidyl ethers, epoxides, epoxy resins, epoxidized acids, epoxidized alcohols, cyclohexane oxide, and aliphatic chains including a terminal or non-terminal epoxide group.
