A process for producing an olefin polymerization catalyst comprising an organometallic compound of a transition metal from Group 3 to 10 of the Periodic Table (IUPAC), or of an actinide olanthanide, having the formula (I): (L) mRnMXq (I) where M is a transition metal as defined above and each X is independently a monovalent anionic ligand; each L is independently a substituted or unsubstituted or underivated cyclopentadiene mono-, bi- or multi-condensed of a cyclopentadiene that optionally may carry additional substituents and / or one or more Group 13 to 16 hetero ring atoms of the Periodic Table (IUPAC) and that Secoordine with M; R is a bridging group that joins two L ligands; m is 1, 2, or 3; n is 0, 1 or 2; q is 1, 2, or 3, and m + q is equal to the valence of the metal. in the form of spherical solid particles, comprising the steps of: - preparing a homogeneous solution of the compound of formula (I) and an activator containing Al or B, in which said catalyst is formed in situ between the catalyst components of said solution ; - dispersing said solution in a solvent immiscible therewith to form a liquid / liquid emulsion system in which said one or more catalyst components are present in the dispersed phase droplets; - solidify said dispersed phase to convert said drops into solid particles, in which solidification takes place within the drops, and - optionally recover said particles to obtain said catalyst in which part or all of the drops become solid spherical particles. |
