abstract | A process for preparing a compound according to Formula I, or a salt thereof: wherein: Ar1 and Ar2 are independently selected from substituted and unsubstituted aryl and substituted and unsubstituted heteroaryl; X is N or CH; n is 0, 1 or 2; R is -H or -hydrocarbyl (C1-C8); y * indicates that, when X is CH, and R is different than -H, the configuration of the substituents on the carbon atom of X is (R) -, (S) - or any mixture of (R) - and ( S) -; provided that when X is N, then n is 2; said process comprising the steps of: a) reacting a compound according to Formula II, or a salt thereof: wherein, Ar1, Ar2, R, n, X and * are as defined above, in sufficient conditions to reduce the ketone moiety of the compound of Formula II in a secondary alcohol, to form a compound according to Formula III, or a salt thereof: in which Ar1, Ar2, X, n, * and R are such as defined for the compounds according to Formula I, and ‡ indicates that the configuration of the substituents on the designated carbon atom is (R) -, (S) - or any mixture of (R) - and (S) -; (b) reacting said compound according to Formula III prepared in step (a), or a salt thereof, under conditions sufficient to dehydrate the remaining secondary alcohol of the compound of Formula III to form a compound according to Formula I, or a salt thereof; and (c) isolating said compound according to Formula I formed in et (apa (b), or a salt thereof, from the reaction mixture of step (b). |
