A process for extracting metals from an aqueous solution by contacting said aqueous solution with a metal extracting agent comprising one or more 2-hydroxyphenyldiazoles of formula (2) in which: R5 is hydrogen, an optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group or a group that removes electrons; R7 is hydrogen or an optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group; R9 is hydrogen, an optionally substituted hydrocarbyl, optionally substituted hydrocarbyloxy, optionally substituted hydrocarbyloxycarbonyl, optionally substituted hydrocarbylcarbonyloxy, optionally substituted mono or dihydrocarbonylaminocarbonyl group; R 10 is hydrogen, an optionally substituted hydrocarbyl, optionally substituted hydrocarbyloxy, optionally substituted hydrocarbyloxycarbonyl, optionally substituted hydrocarbylcarbonyloxy, optionally substituted mono or dihydrocarbonylaminocarbonyl group; and tautomers or salts thereof. |
