abstract Alcohol and water sensor compounds, detection method and device # The present invention describes a new coordination compound of the formula: [M (PDC) ((py) {sub, 2} CO) (H {sub, 2} O )] where PDC represents the pyridyl-2,5-dicarboxylate ligand, (py) {sub, 2} CO the di-2-pyridyl ketone ligand and M represents a divalent cation selected from the group consisting of Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba. The invention also describes new complexes present in crystalline compounds of formulas (IIe), (IIm) and (IIa) obtainable from the above by collecting ethanol, methanol or water in their structures. Furthermore, the invention describes a method and a device for determining the presence of ethanol, methanol or water in a sample comprising contacting the compound of formula (I) with said sample at room temperature and detecting a color change in the sample by obtaining the complexes (IIe), (IIm) or (IIa).
