A method for removing ammonium nitrogen from organic wastewater comprising liquid manure, a method comprising the steps of (i) providing organic wastewater comprising liquid manure with an ammonium nitrogen content; (ii) applying said wastewater to a synthetic, organic ion exchanger that adsorbs, during its use, more than 1.2 eq / I, preferably more than 2.0 eq / I; and (iii) allow the ammonium nitrogen of said wastewater to be adsorbed to said ion exchanger, wherein the concentration of ammonium nitrogen in said wastewater exceeds 3 g / l at the time of application of said wastewater to said ion exchanger, and in which the organic wastewater has an organic matter content of 0.5-8% (w / w), preferably 1-3% (w / w), at the time of application of said waters residual to the ion exchanger, said organic matter being dissolved or in the form of particles with a maximum extension of 25 μm. |
