abstract A method for manufacturing a tube section comprising: providing a mat (1) formed by a fiber matrix impregnated with an airgel, xerogel or cryogel, the mat having a first major face (2), a second major face (3 ) opposite the first caramaor, a first edge (4) defining a longitudinal direction, a second edge (5) substantially parallel to the first edge, a third edge (6) defining a transverse direction that is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction, and a fourth edge (7) substantially parallel to the third edge; apply an adhesive (8) to the first major face (2); winding the mat around a mandrel (13) to provide a rolled mat (10) having an inner surface defining an inner circumference and an outer surface defining an outer circumference and a longitudinal axis that is substantially perpendicular to the planes of the inner circumferences and external and substantially parallel to the transverse direction of the mat; and cutting the rolled mat (10) in a substantially radial direction between the outer surface and the inner surface to provide a cut that extends in a direction substantially parallel to the axial length.
