abstract | A pharmaceutical composition of masked taste multiparticles comprising: (a) a central particle containing the drug, and (b) a solvent coacervated membrane that coats said central particle containing the drug, comprising a combination of a polymer not soluble in water and a water-soluble organic or inorganic pore former at a ratio of 90/10 to 50/50, where the amount of said membrane coacervated in coating solvent ranges between 10% and 50% by weight, based on the weight of the particle coated core containing the drug and this coated particle containing the drug has an average particle size greater than 400 µm, and wherein said composition has the following properties: (1) said composition exhibits acceptable taste masking when the composition is placed in the oral cavity for at least 60 seconds; and (2) said composition releases no less than 75% of the drug in 30 minutes, when the solution is tested using United States Pharmacopoeia Apparatus 1 (Baskets @ 100 rpm in 900 mL of buffer solution at a pH of 1.2). |
