Treatment procedure for the reduction or prevention of the production of hydrogen sulfide compound and corresponding installation, the H {sub, 2} S being dissolved in aqueous effluents (1) in sewage in a conduit (2) of a network of sewage upstream of a biological water purification station, which contains sulfate reducing bacteria (BRS) and sulfur-containing organic or mineral compounds. Alkaline earth or alkali metal nitrite is injected into said effluent, containing or being supplemented, said effluent and / or the bacterial biofilm that lines the inner wall of said conduit, by a combination of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria other than BRS bacteria. The concentration of nitrite injected into the effluent is 0.036 to 0.087 mol / m {sup, 3}, preferably 0.058 to 0.087 mol / m {sup, 3}, decreasing by 1 g / m {sup, 3} the concentration of H {sub, 2} S, which will occur in the absence of nitrite. |
