abstract Procedure for modifying a substrate, which has functional groups chosen between hydroxy groups and primary and secondary amino groups, in which at least one substrate is contacted with a compound of formula I or II under conditions such that the functional groups react by opening the 1,3-dioxolane or 1,3-diazaheptane elanillo ring and forming a covalent bond with the compound of the formula I or II, in which: R means C1-C12 alkylene; and k is the number 1 or an integer greater than 1; if k is the number 1, then X means CO-CH> = CH2, CO-C (CH3)> = CH2, CO-O-aryl, (C2- alkylene C6) -SO2CH> = CH2o CO-NH-R1; and R1 means C1-C30 alkyl, C1-C30 halogenoalkyl, C1-C30 hydroxyalkyl, (C1-C6 alkyloxy) -C1-C30 alkyl, (C1-C6 alkyl) -carbonyloxy-C1-C30 alkyl, amino-C1-C30 alkyl, mono- or di (C1-C6 alkyl) -amino-C1-C30 alkyl, ammonium-C1-C30 alkyl, polyoxyalkylene-C1-C30 alkyl, polysiloxanyl-C1-C30 alkyl, (meth) acryloyloxy-C1-C30 alkyl, sulfone -C1-C30 alkyl, phosphono-C1-C30 alkyl, di (C1-C6 alkyl) -phosphono-C1-C30 alkyl, phosphonate-C1-C30 alkyl, di (C1-C6 alkyl) -phosphonatealkylC1-C30 or a saccharide moiety and if k is an integer greater than 1, then X means (i) the rest of a polyamine, with which the portion of the formula in square brackets is joined through groups (CO) NH, or (ii) a structure polymeric with which the portion of the formula in square brackets is combined through groups (CO), NH- (C2-C6 alkylene) -O (CO) or (CO) -O- (C2-C6 alkylene) -O (CO).
