abstract A method of producing an O-aryl N- (6-alkoxy-2-pyridyl) -N-alkylthiocarbamate represented by the general formula (I) :( wherein R1 and R2, independently of each other, denote C1- alkyl groups C4 and Ar denotes an aryl group), characterized by comprising the steps of treating a phenol represented by the general formula (IV): Ar-OH (IV) (in which Ar is as defined above) with a base in a solvent, add thereto an alkali metal salt of N- (6-alkoxy-2-pyridyl) -N-alkyldithiocarbamic acid represented by the general formula (III) :( in which R1 and R2 are as defined above, and M denotes an alkali metal) and a halomethane represented by the general formula (V): CH2XmYn (V) (in which X and Y denote different halogen atoms, m denotes 0, 1 or 2, n denotes 0, 1 or 2, and m + n> = 2), and allowed to react to produce said O-aryl N- (6-alkoxy-2-pyridyl) -N-alkylthiocarbamate represented by the general formula (I).
