abstract | A method of transforming cells of an Allium plant species with a polynucleotide of interest, comprising the steps of: (i) isolating an immature leaf section of the Allium plant to be transformed; (ii) co-culturing the leaf section with Agrobacterium containing one or more suitable vectors comprising the polynucleotide of interest for a period of time sufficient to achieve the transfer of the polynucleotide sequence of interest to one or more leaf cells of plant; and (iii) transfer the leaf section to a selection medium that allows the selection of the cells of the transformed Allium plant. |
