titleOfInvention Method to reduce and / or prevent the production of excessively low density polymer product during polymerization transitions
abstract A method for controlling a transition from an initial polymerization reaction to a depolymerization target reaction in a fluidized bed reactor, wherein the initial polymerization reaction consists in producing a polymer product with properties that meet a first set of specifications, the polymerization reaction consisting target in producing a polymer product with properties that meet a second set of specifications that includes a range of target density for the product, and a ratio of concentrations and a ratio of feeds for transition that are controllable, where the ratio of concentrations is the ratio deconcentrations of gaseous comonomer to concentration of gaseous monomer in the reactor, and the feed ratio is the ratio of the feed rate of the comonomer to the reactor to the feed rate of the monomer to the reactor, said method including the steps of: (a) during transition keep r a first of the concentration ratio and the feed ratio at a value at least substantially constant while the process changes are implemented in an effort to bring the polymer produced to compliance with the second series of specifications and monitor without controlling the other of the ratio of concentrations and feed rate to generate first data; and (b) during the transition, determine from the first data whether a polymer that is excessively low density is likely to be produced during the transition, and after determining from the first data that a polymer is likely to be produced that have an excessively low density during the transition, keep the other concentration ratio and feed rate at a value that is at least substantially constant during the remaining portion of the transition while allowing the first of the concentration ratio and feed rate to vary .
