abstract A method for identifying an antibody that binds to a preselected epitope of a target protein comprises: a) providing a phage particle library that expresses antibodies on the surface of the phage particles; b) preparing a decoy protein that has changes in the corresponding amino acid sequences preselected alepitope of the target protein, and differing the decoy protein from the target protein only in preselected elepitope; c) incubating the phage particle library with the target protein to select phage particles with protein binding antibodies target; d) add the decoy protein as a competitor at a molar excess concentration to negatively select the phage particles specific for the preselected epitope; e) separate the phage particles that bind to the target protein from those that bind to the decoy protein and f) recover phage particles bound to the target protein
