abstract A sterilizer (10) for sterilizing a load of instruments in a sterilization cycle, comprising the sterilizer (10): a vacuum chamber (14); a source of vaporizable sterilizer; a vacuum pump (16); and a control system (28); in which the control system (28) is programmed to accept one or more data inputs with respect to the nature of the load and determine one or more cycle parameters based on the one or more inputs data, one of the one or more data entries comprising a material of one or more instruments in the load, and in which the one or more parameters comprise an amount of sterilizer input to the vacuum chamber (14), and in which The control system (28) is programmed to increase the amount of sterilizer input to the vacuum chamber (14) from the sterilizer source in response to the input of a material of one or more instruments into the load where the material is absorbent from the sterilizing.
