A method for preparing a stabilized bromine solution comprising performing, in order, the following steps: (a) combining a bromine source and a stabilizer to form a mixture; (b) adding an oxidant to the mixture; and (c) adding an alkaline source to the mixture after step (b) to adjust the pH of the mixture to a minimum of 13, in which the bromine source is selected from the group consisting of hydrobromic acid, bromine chloride, Bromoelemental, alkali metal bromides and alkaline earth metal bromides, in which the stabilizer has the chemical formula R-NH-R1, in which R and R1 are selected from the group consisting of R2CO, R2SO2, R2CF2, R2CHF, H , OH and PO (OH) 2, and R2 is an alkyl group or an aromatic group, in which the oxidant is selected from the group consisting of chlorine gas, hypochlorous acid, hypochlorite salts, chlorites, chlorates, elemental bromine, bromine chloride , hydrogen peroxide, persulfates, permanganates and peracetic acid, and in which the alkaline source is selected from the group consisting of alkali metal hydroxides and alkaline earth metal hydroxides. |
