abstract Method for reducing cross contamination during amplification by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) of a nucleic acid, comprising the steps of: a. providing a solution sample containing said nucleic acid; b. amplifying said nucleic acid in the presence of an enzyme that possesses DNA glycosylase activity to generate DNA with at least one abasic site; c. provide at least one reagent that facilitates degradation of the abasic DNA, a polyamine being dichoreactive; d. incubating said sample solution under suitable conditions to cause degradation of said DNA with at least one abasic site.
