abstract | A composition of modified inorganic tubules, comprising: a) 1-99.999% by weight of inorganic tubules; and b) 0.001-99% by weight of a block copolymer, the block copolymer having a composition comprising: a first block comprising charged monomers or monomers that after changes in pH can become charged, preferably where the monomer it is or may become negatively charged, and monomer units of a vinyl monomer; and a second block comprising monomer units of one or more vinyl monomers and monomer units of the charged monomers or monomers that after the change in pH can become charged to the first block; optionally it also comprises anions or organic or inorganic cations; where the charged monomers or monomers that after the pH change can become charged monomers in the first block have functional groups selected from the group consisting of: ammonium, alkyl ammonium, arylammonium (-N + R (3-nm) ArmHn where (n + m) <= 3), aryl- and alkyl phosphonium (-P + R (3-nm) ArmHn where (n + m) <= 3), aryl- and alkylsulfonium (-S + R (2- nm) ArmHn where (n + m) <= 2), substituted ammonium, (-N + X1X2X3) phosphonium (-P + X1X2X3), or sulfonium (- S + X1X2), where X1, X2 and X3 each is individually H or a C1-C20 group selected from alkyl, aryl, perfluoroalkyl, arylalkyl, alkylaryl and any of these substituted with one or more atoms of oxygen, nitrogen, chlorine, fluorine, bromine, iodine, sulfur and phosphorus, imidazolium, triazolium, acids from Lewis, Brönsted acids, sulfate, sulphonate, sulfonic acid, carboxylic acids, hydroxyl, mercapto, thiol, and any hydrogen acid such as alpha carboxylic hydrogens and substituted derivatives thereof. |
