titleOfInvention Procedure for ethanol production
abstract A process for the production of ethanol, said process comprising: treating a mixed waste feed to separate a first feed material comprising fermentable components for use as biomass feed material and a second feed material comprising gasifiable feed materials : a) pass the first biomass feed material to a first fermentation stage where it undergoes anaerobic fermentation at a pH below 6.0 and at a temperature of the order of 20 to 70ยบ C to convert the biomass to a solution comprising acetic acid as the predominant product, b) passing the second feed material to a gasification stage where it is subjected to gasification to produce a gaseous mixture comprising carbon monoxide and hydrogen, and c) passing the solution comprising acetic acid from stage (a) and the gaseous mixture from stage (b) to one or more stages of additional fermentation where they undergo fermentation to produce ethanol.
