abstract | A composition of matter manufactured by a method comprising: reacting, optionally in a first reaction solvent, at least one multi-arm polyether amine having at least three arms with at least one bifunctional crosslinking agent of formula: X1-R- X2 the molar ratio of the multi-arm polyether amine to the bifunctional crosslinking agent in the range of 4: 1 to 50: 1, thereby forming an extended chain polyamine type product; and wherein: (i) at least three of the arms of the multi-arm polyether amine are terminated in a primary amine group; (ii) the multi-arm polyether amine has a weight average molecular weight of 450 to 200,000 Daltons; (iii) X1-R-X2 is a polymer having a weight average molecular weight of 2,000 to 20,000 Daltons; (iv) R is a divalent polymer group; (v) X1 and X2 are groups capable of reacting with the primary amine group to form a carbononitrogen bond; provided that the extended chain polyamine type product is characterized by a water solubility at 20 ° C of at least 20% by weight. |
