A process for sulfurizing a catalyst composition containing additives comprising - providing a catalyst containing additives comprising or at least one metal hydrogenation component of Group VI and / or Group VIII of the Periodic Table, and an organic additive selected from the group of: - compounds comprising at least two oxygen atoms and 2-20 carbon atoms, - compounds comprising at least two hydroxyl groups and 2-10 carbon atoms per molecule and the (poly-) ethers of these compounds, - organic compounds comprising at least two nitrogen atoms and at least two carbonyl moieties, - organic compounds comprising N and carbonyl, - alkoxycarboxylic acid, - organic acids and polyols, or the amount of additive in the range of 0.01 -2.5 moles of additive per mole of hydrogenation metals present in the catalyst, - contacting said catalyst composition containing additives with a li organic liquid, or organic liquid which is a fraction of petroleum having a boiling point range of 10-5500C, or in the substantial absence of hydrogen, - followed by contacting the catalyst with hydrogen and a sulfur-containing compound in the gas phase, in which less than 40% of the sulfur present in the sulfurized catalyst is added with the organic liquid. |
