abstract Method for controlling metamerism by providing a plurality of formulas that are suitable for producing a color for at least two colored materials, the method comprising: electronically providing color options, the color options being selectable to represent the color; provide criteria options electronically, the criteria options being selectable to represent at least one characteristic of colored materials; electronically receive a color selection (S100) among the color options; electronically receive a first selection of material criteria among the criteria options (S104); receive a second selection of material criteria (S104) electronically among the criteria options; electronically match (S110) the color selection and the first selection of material criteria and provide a first formula (S112) suitable to produce the color represented by the color selection for the first of the at least two colored materials; electronically match (S112) the color selection and the second selection of the material criteria and provide a second formula (S 112) suitable for producing the color for a second of the at least two colored materials; characterized by: electronically optimizing (S 118) the first formula, and the second formula for controlling the metamerism between the first colored material and the second colored material, in which the optimization electronically of the first formula and the second formula comprises: i. set a variable X in 1, in which the variable X represents a stored formula or the reproduction of a selected color for a selected material criterion (S200); ii. retrieving a formula X representing a formula of the dye for the selected color and the material criteria selected from a table of formulas of color materials 32 (S202); iii. determine a degree of metameric effect on the selected color (S204); iv. determine the degree of metameric effect for the selected material criteria (S206); v. review formula X (S208) by adjusting a type of dye and an amount thereof to minimize metamerism; saw. storing the revised formula X, said revised formula X being a first optimized formulation (S210); vii. set the variable X to X +1 (S212); viii repeat steps ii) to vii) for X = X + 1; ix. determine if an additional formula is provided for optimization (S214); to. wherein when an additional formula is provided, steps (ii) to (vii) are repeated to optimize the additional formula; and b. If no additional formula for optimization is provided, terminate the optimization procedure electronically of the first formula and the second formula.
