NON-RECOMBINANT SACCHAROMYCES STRAINS THAT GROW IN XILOSA. |
abstract |
The method of producing one or more strains of Saccharomyces that are capable of growing at a rate of at least one generation every 48 hours using xylose as the sole source of carbon for growth, the method comprising the steps of: (a) providing a genetically diverse population of non-recombinant Saccharomyces yeast cells; (b) culturing yeast cells under conditions that allow the combination of DNA between yeast cells using non-recombinant methods; (c) identify or select yeast cells by incubating yeast cells in or on a medium containing xylose, in which the identified or selected cells form the genetically diverse population of non-recombinant yeast cells; and (d) repeat steps (b) and (c) with the yeast cells identified or tested until one or more yeast cells is obtained with a growth rate of at least one generation every 48 hours using xylose as the sole source Carbon for growth. |
