abstract Method for modifying a GAG (glycosaminoglycan) binding region that is a α-C-terminal helix of a chemokine, characterized in that it comprises the steps of introducing at least one basic amino acid in said α-C-terminal α helix and / or deleting it. less a bulky and / or acidic amino acid in said α-C-terminal helix, such that said chymokine has a GAG binding affinity of Kd <= 10 mM, preferably <= 1 mM, still more preferably <= 0.1 mM , and wherein the GAG binding affinity of said chemokine is increased compared to the GAG binding affinity of the respective wild-type chymokine.
