titleOfInvention PROCEDURE FOR THE GENETIC IDENTIFICATION OF THE EUROPEAN SPICES OF THE GENERO MAJA (CENTOLLAS).
abstract Procedure for the genetic identification of European species of the genus Maja (crabs). # A protocol has been developed for the genetic identification of the European Atlantic spider crab (Maja brachydactyla) against the other species of the genus found in the Mediterranean ( M. squinado, M. crispata and M. goltziana). These species constitute a commercial resource of great value; its identification is fundamental to enable its traceability and correct labeling and to guide its management and conservation. # The protocol consists in amplifying a region of 671 bp of the 16S gene of mitochondrial DNA, whose nucleotide sequence is characteristic of each of the 4 species. In particular, 3 restriction enzymes that digest the 671 bp fragment have been identified so that the combination of the band patterns they generate is distinctive and characteristic of each species.
