abstract |
Continuous process for recovering caprolactam from an aqueous caprolactam product, said aqueous caprolactam product comprising (i) caprolactam, (ii) impurities and (iii) water, said process comprising: - adding alkali metal hydroxide to the aqueous caprolactam product , in an amount less than 20 mmol of alkali metal hydroxide per kg of caprolactam; and - reacting at least 50 mol% of the alkali metal hydroxide added to form alkaline aminocaproate to obtain a caprolactam product enriched in caproate before a subsequent distillation step; and - distilling the caprolactam product enriched in caproate under reduced pressure. |
