abstract An amino acid sequence corresponding to an extracellular domain that has the structure of a type C lectin and that has the activity of binding modified low density lipoprotein, characterized in that it consists of amino acids 61-270 in SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 2 or SEQ ID NO: 3 or an analogue thereof, wherein said analogue consists of the same sequence, except for variations due to the degeneracy of the genetic code and substitution of an amino acid with an analogue amino acid, with the proviso that the sequence of said analog retain the activity of binding modified low density lipoprotein.
