abstract | A method comprising the steps of: (i) the provision of an electrophilically activated polymer, POLI-L0, 1-E, in which: POLI is a water soluble polymer segment, L is an optional adapter, E is an electrophile , and (ii) the reaction of said POLI-L0, 1-E with a symmetric disulfide reagent, (NU-YS-) 2, in which: NU is a nucleophile, and is selected from the group consisting of alkylene, alkylene substituted, cycloalkylene, substituted cycloalkylene, aryl and substituted aryl, containing from about 2 to about 10 carbon atoms, and S is a sulfur atom, under conditions effective to promote the reaction between E and NU to thus form POLI-L0 , 1-XYSSYX-L0, 1- POLI ((POLI-L0, 1-XYS-) 2), where X is a group resulting from the reaction between E and NU. |
